Amisha Parekh, MD, MPH, FACEP
Dr. Parekh graduated from medical school in 2007 and completed residency training at the New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Parekh is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and has been Board Certified since 2013. She has completed training in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. In addition to her medical training, Dr. Parekh has also completed a Masters of Public Health at the Medical College of Ohio. She is an Assistant Professor at the Weill Cornell Medical Center and is available for consultation at the clinic for both urgent and primary care matters. She is licensed to practice medicine in Oregon, Washington, and New York. Dr. Parekh continues to practice full time in an Emergency Department setting.
Robert Birkhahn, MD, FACEP, AAFP
Dr. Birkhahn is an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a Fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Birkhahn graduated from the University of Cincinnati, completed residency training at the New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY and received his Masters from Cornell University in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Services Research. He is Board Certified by ABEM and has been trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Dr. Birkhahn is a Professor at the Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York and has produced more than 70 peer-reviewed publications, conducted more than 50 clinical research trials, and still actively teaches medical students, paramedics, residency candidates and clinical fellows. In his spare time Dr. Birkhahn volunteers as a Primary Care Physician providing free medical care at the Southwest Community Health Center in Hillsboro.

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Dr. Stacey Bzowy. Her death was unexpected, and we know that you as her patients grieve her loss just as we all do at the Pearl Health Center.
Dr. Bzowy will be missed dearly. We remember her for the spirit she brought to the clinic and the compassionate care that she provided to all of her patients. Dr. Bzowy was an avid dog lover and is survived by her fur baby, Violet. Our thoughts are with her friends and family during this difficult time.
Andrea Del-Olmo, ND
Dr. Andrea Del-Olmo is a licensed naturopathic physician. She graduated from National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in 2013 with a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine and a certificate in natural childbirth. While in school, Dr. Del-Olmo worked for four years as a teaching assitant in gross anatomy and assisted in over 75 live births in the greater Portland area. Her areas of concentration include women’s health, homeopathy and minor surgery.
Dr. Del-Olmo received her baccalaureate from the University of California, Santa Cruz, graduating cum laude with a degree in community studies, emphasizing sustainable agriculture and permaculture. Prior to attending school at NUNM, she studied botanical medicine at the Columbines School of Botanical Studies in Eugene, Oregon, and Ayurvedic medicine at the Dhyana Center in Sebastopol, California. She has also spent many years traveling and living abroad in countries across Asia, Europe, Central America and the Carribbean.
Dr. Del-Olmo has an integrative approach to health care, which addresses mental, emotional and physical needs while utilizing the best of both conventional and alternative medicine to provide safe and effective treatment. When not working she enjoys spending time with her family sailing, surfing, hiking and gardening.
David Klarberg, FNP
David J. Klarberg MSN, FNP-C is a nurse practitioner with ten years of clinical practice experience working with adult populations. Originally hailing from Houston, Texas, he received his undergraduate training as a registered nurse from the University of Texas at Austin in 2008. Thereafter, Mr. Klarberg relocated to Philadelphia to pursue a Master of Science in Nursing degree at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2011. Returning to Houston he then began working with largely underserved and undocumented populations in the metro area, with a focus on HIV/AIDS, LGBT health, Hepatitis C, and primary care. After relocation to the Pacific Northwest in 2018, he began working in interventional pain management, later deciding to return to primary care services once again.
David is an avid cyclist, kayaker, and hiker in his free time, and has over 20 years experience playing electric and bass guitar; he enjoys seeking out the best sushi, pho, and barbecue restaurants as well. Any discussion of science fiction, fantasy, comic books, or cinephile culture is likely to elicit an enthusiastic response.
Valerie Brand, MSN, FNP-C
Valerie Brand is a licensed family nurse practitioner graduating with her Master of Science in Nursing degree from Vanderbilt University. Before transitioning her career into nursing, Val worked briefly in the biotech industry, and many years in the Alaskan seafood industry while pursuing her undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology from Western Washington University.
In medicine, Val is passionate about expanding access to primary care, and expanding healthcare education so that patients feel more confident in their healthcare decisions. She believes in trauma informed care for every patient, and in building partnerships with her patients. Her clinical interest include preventative medicine, migraines, addiction, diabetes, thyroid disease and women’s health.
Val is a PNW native and enjoys almost all the outdoor activities the beautiful PNW has to offer in her free time. She also enjoys cooking, travel, tending to houseplants, dog sports, playing soccer, and exploring local Portland eateries with her husband and two dogs.
Elliot Taxman ND, MS, Assitant Medical Director
Dr. Elliot Taxman is a licensed naturopathic physician. He completed a three-year CNME accredited residency in primary care. He graduated with honors from NUNM in 2017 with a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and a Masters of Science in Integrative Medicine Research. His masters’ thesis, Conceptualizing Integrative Medicine: A Qualitative Study Using Focus Groups, provided further insight into healthcare and clinical practice. As a student, he was the president of the Student Alliance for Integrative Medicine, where he worked to foster an integrative medical community in Portland. He has a passion for clinical integrative primary care and family practice.
Dr. Taxman has completed several integrative rotations, globally and locally, in multiple hospitals and private clinical settings. He draws on this experience to develop individualized and evidence-informed treatment plans for every patient. Dr. Taxman is excited to continue to help make modern naturopathic primary care more available to the community.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Taxman is an avid sports fan and enjoys being active outdoors, at the gym, or playing ice hocky, tennis, paddle boarding, traveling, exploring the arts, cooking, and spending time with his lovely wife and friends.
Nicholi Khajavei, DC
Dr. Nicholi H. Khajavei graduated from The University of Western States in 2017 as a doctor of chiropractic, and also has bachelor’s degrees in Human Biology, Psychology, and Public Health. He joined the Pearl Health Center in January of 2018. In his treatments, he practices diversified adjusting techniques and utilizes flexion/distraction, soft tissue manipulation, Rock Tape, postural training, nutrutional adviceand exercise in order to help each, individual patient reach their personal goals and optimum health. He strives to educate his patients so they understand their own body and also teach them self-management techniques to better manage their health. Conditions that can be treated by chiropractic care include: neck and back pain, sciatica, disc herniations, headaches, TMJ dysfunction, and general muscle or joint pain.
Dr. Khajavei is happily married with two teenage boys, a wolf-dog (Shadow), a miniature pinscher (Hercules), and cat (Cleo- the boss!). He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, snowboarding, riding motorscycles, mountain biking, running Hood to Coast, hiking, and playing with his fur babies.
Darren Brooks, L.Ac
Darren is a licensed and national board certified acupuncturist with many years experience helping patients of all ages with their healing process. His training encompasses a number of classical healing practices, including teaching classical meditation and therapeutic exercises.
Darren encourages an integrative medicine approach, where a patient has support from all their practitioners to achieve optimal health and wellness in body and mind. Acupuncture treatments are a wonderful way to assist in the care of a wide variety of conditions and to help healing of the whole person.
Jeremy Adversalo, LPC
Jeremy is a licensed professional counseling (LPC), and received his Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Pacific University. Jeremy has provided mental health services for a wide range of individuals, including those impacted by depression, anxiety, trauma, loss, substance use, and challenging life transitions. Jeremy believes it is important for mental health treatment to be tailored to our clients’ wants and needs. Through this collaborative process, clients are able to identify their own personal goals, and begin to develop a meaningful and fulfilling life. When Jeremy is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife, playing fetch with his dog, riding his bike, and going to music concerts.
Skyler Gideon, MSW, FNP-C
Skyler is a licensed family nurse practitioner who graduated from Oregon Health & Science University with a Master of Nursing degree. Originally from Florida, Skyler also earned a Master in Social Work and Social Policy Administration from Florida State University. They provided services to victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence prior to moving to Oregon in 2011. Since moving to Oregon, they have worked in various roles in sexual and reproductive health as well as public health.
Skyler is passionate about working with medically underserved communities and highly values advocacy and partnership as a healthcare provider. Their approach to patients is nonjudgmental, trauma-informed, body-positive, sex-positive, and centered in harm reduction and patient empowerment. They do not believe their job is to tell patients what to do but to give them the information and tools they may need to live their healthiest life.
Their areas of interest include gender care and hormone therapy, STI/HIV screening and management, PrEP, birth control, mental healthcare, sleep medicine, medication abortion services, and preventative health, among many others.
On the weekends, especially during the fall, you may find Skyler in the forest hunting for mushrooms.
Meghan Sperandeo, ND
Dr. Meghan Sperandeo is a board certified naturopathic physician. She received her doctorate with High Honors designation from the National University of Natural Medicine in 2013 and completed a competitive 2 year teaching residency with a focus in primary care. In addition to her primary care practice, Dr. Sperandeo spent 4.5 years working in outpatient clinical urology providing integrative care for various women’s and men’s urologic complaints. She has continued to teach medical students at NUNM as a clinical supervisor and co-professor of Urology, Endocrinology, and Geriatrics.
Dr. Sperandeo has contributed to publications related to opioid stewardship in urology and the role of naturopathic physicians in shared vaccine decision making. She was honored to present on the topic of CAM strategies for urologic pain at a Quality Improvement Summit for the American Urological Association.
Dr. Sperandeo’s areas of focus include integrative primary care, women’s health, pelvic and urologic health.
In her spare time, Dr. Sperandeo enjoys being outdoors, hiking, biking, practicing yoga, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends.
